An apartment big enough for all of us and our ideas

As some of you may know, I just came back from a trip to San Diego. It was so fun, but sometimes I feel like traveling gives you a bit of unnecessary stress...if you don't plan right. Here are a few tips that I came up with on my little vacation:

Make a checklist of things to you need to pack

Make another checklist of things you need to pack up when you're LEAVING the hotel. I always, always forget something on our way back home.

Bring a cell phone and camera charger. Both of these can spoil a good vacation if you're not prepared for it.

If you haven't already made plans of places you'd like to visit, information desks at hotels are always good, but I find that asking locals is sometimes better.

To control your spending habits, try to use cash. Or keep track of your purchases on a little post it in your wallet. That way, you can see how much you're spending rather than just swiping the card everytime you see something and being surprised when you come back home.

Always bring medicine while on your vacation! You never know if you're going to eat something bad, catch a cold, or get a headache and it can really spoil your vacation if you're not prepared. Bring some Pepto, Asprin, and other "emergency" meds to keep you going.

Find a good map of the place you're visiting. A lot of precious time can be wasted going in circles trying to find something when it could have been avoided by taking a few minutes aside to read a map. When we went to San Diego, we were lacking a good detailed map so it was hard to find the easiest ways to certain spots.

Pack your "unmentionables" in a ziplock bag. If you're taking a plane, it can be embarassing when the security gets a false alarm from your bag and starts to tear apart your suitcase...with your underwear flying around everywhere. Avoid that by putting smaller bags in your suitcase. Packing and unpacking are also 100% easier this way.

I know I'm missing a lot...but feel free to add your own traveling tips. =]

For Long Drives bring MUSIC!
I usually prepare a playlist on my iPod when I travel, especially when I'm the one driving all night. I usually travel with my grandfather so I add in some Jazz, Classic Rock, CLEAN Hip-Hop, Classical, Pop that I can stand, Disco, J-Rock and so on. Something I can enjoy and he can tolerate. If I’m with friends I throw on anything I know we all can enjoy. And make a big playlist! You never know when you’re going to want to skip a track or two. And you won’t have to worry about taking your eyes off the road to search for a song. If you don’t own an iPod or have a connection from your iPod to the car stereo, then burn a few CDs!

Oh, music. Yes, I know. When we went to our last road trip, we only had like one good CD playing the entire trip... So I just stopped listening after a while.

Speaking of keeping your eyes on the road and staying awake...I forgot about Jerky. It keeps your mouth chewing so you have to stay awake. My parents always eat that while making long drives.
