in the kitchen...

Green Tea Powder (matcha) is IMPOSSIBLE to find. After visiting every "crunchy" store south of Hartford, I caved in and bought a powdered green tea mix made by Lipton (which turned out to be crystallized tea that smells like mint). As I was pulling out of the Shaws parking lot I noticed… Continue

Valentine's Day

Before I met Conor, Valentine's Day actually had significance in my life. I'd pretend to not care about the commercial holiday but really deep down, I was wishing I had a valentine. I would secretly hope some secret admirer would reveal themselves by buying me chocolates or sending me flowers. The truth is, I don't even like flowers that much and if I really wanted chocolate, I'd buy some myself. After I met Conor, I didn't feel the need to put so much energy into one day. Now, it's just an excus… Continue

It's the new new...

Sorry I've been MIA. I had a great weekend in upstate NY and Northampton. I saw Neko Case for the 2nd time on Saturday night and it was incredible. She truly is my favorite musician. She sings so effortlessly. One second she's joking around and the next she's belting out a great song. I also love that she has such a great range. Just compare the songs she does with the New Pornographers to her solo stuff. The song that probably did it for me was " I Wish I Was The Moon". I remember seeing some r… Continue

Little Arrowhead Scarf

I keep having dreams of returning to my old job. It's creepy and I don't want to look into it. Also, never heard back from the boutique. All is well though, I've been applying to at least 3 jobs a day. Something's got to stick. I may start looking in New York. I could always commute until I've saved enough to move there.Onto knitting!

Deep V Argyle Vest FO

Pattern: Deep V Argyle Vest Source: www.eunnyjang.com Yarn: Jaeger Extra Fine Merino DK Needles: Clover US 4 circular When I knit my gauge for swatch for this, I was spot on. Right yarn, right needles, right tension. Perfect! Right? Well, not so much. After a few rounds, I noticed that the stitches looked slightly longer in the actual project than in the swatch. I took out my needle gauge and sure enough, my stitches per inch had gone up… Continue

Wednesday ess en bee

I have a hard time saying Stitch n’ Bitch. I can type it all I want and say it in my head but to say it aloud?? Can’t do it. I feel that way about most knitting terminology. I can type out FO, WIP, LYS but I would never say “eff oh” or “finished object”. Maybe because I’ve never really hung out exclusively with knitters. I prefer to refer to the SnB as a knitting group. Of course then, it sounds like I’m going to a Knitters Anonymous group. “Hello, my name is Brenda and I’m a knitter”. I’m over… Continue

A Day in the Life...

of an unemployed fresh-out-of-the-university gal. The first week of being unemployed and living with mom and dad entailed getting up at 11am and making Belgian waffles. This sort of thing catches up with you though. After eating Belgian waffles for breakfast 7 days straight, you start to look and feel like a belgian waffle. So now I present to you the yogurt parfait: So simple, yet so delicious and fun to make. Not as fun as eating it because let’s

Third Attempt to Blog

Here’s the thing. I knit and I sew and sometimes I do other things like eat, sleep, and think. I really like the idea of having a place to share these things but the truth is, I’m lazy. I also hate writing but I always come back to this blogging thing. If this doesn’t work, I’m done. So, to get started I’m going to write one post each day and share my various projects. If I don’t have a substantial amount of posts by February 22nd, then I quit!
